Elephants
African elephants (Loxodonta Africana) are found primarily in eastern and southern Africa (these posts are all from Tanzania). Female elephants form primarily matriarch groupings; male elephants are primarily solitary but associate with magistrates groups when seeking partners for mating. Male elephants will "play-fight" to assess each other's strength and prowess.
They are listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List and Threatened under the US Endangered Species Acts. Human activities and climate change are the most prevalent threats. Although countries have undertaken conservation areas, approx 70% of their range land is outside of protected areas.
